How to Check a Concrete Contractor in San Marcos

Look up the license before you sign or pay. In California any concrete job over $1,000 in labor and materials needs a licensed contractor.

The Short Version

  • Search at cslb.ca.gov
  • C-8 is the concrete class
  • The minor work limit is now $1,000
  • Get the whole job in writing

Look It Up

Go to cslb.ca.gov and search the license number, the business name or the owner's name. Make sure the license is active and the name on it matches who you are dealing with.

The Concrete Class

The C-8 Concrete Contractor class covers forming, pouring, placing and finishing concrete, including driveways, patios and other flat work.

The $1,000 Limit

Since January 1, 2025, the limit for work without a license is $1,000 in labor and materials, under AB 2622. It only applies when no permit is needed and the person hires no one. People without a license who advertise must say so.

Get It in Writing

Ask for a written contract that lists the size, finish, base, steel, joints, cleanup and permits. Never pay cash to someone you cannot look up.
